Our Constitutional Republic faces a clear and present danger more deadly than that of the Civil War. The danger is the Republican Party, a "political party" that has sold out to white supremacy, autocracy, misogyny, and hatred of everything our Nation stands for. Republicans dismiss any sense of a common American narrative. The "Republican Party" is an outlier in our history – ideologically extreme; contemptuous of social and economic policies that have sustained us for a century; unwilling to compromise; dismissive of evidence, fact, and science; dismissive of the legitimacy of any viewpoint except their own. America needs to face the simple, frightening fact that the Republican Party is a clear and present danger to our Constitutional Republic.
The subject of this article — Proud Boy and Jan 6 criminal Chris Qauglin — is a hero of the “Northern Neck Patriots”. Which is about what we should expect — trash tends to bunch together.
Last month, Christopher Quaglin – a New Jersey electrician the Justice Department says is a member of the Proud Boys – filed a renewed motion for release while he prepares for his trial scheduled next month. Quaglin was one of nine men in a multi-defendant indictment field in 2021 stemming from an hours-long assault on police who were defending the U.S. Capitol Building’s Lower West Terrace Tunnel on Jan. 6, 2021. Quaglin faces felony charges of assaulting police with a dangerous weapon and inflicting bodily injury on officers for allegedly attacking police with a stolen riot shield and pepper spray.
Six of Quaglin’s co-defendants have already been found guilty of numerous charges in bench trials before U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden, and Quaglin and the remaining two defendants were scheduled to begin their own bench trial on April 10. In the meantime, however, Quaglin’s attorney Jonathon Gross wanted McFadden to release him to home detention. In a motion filed Feb. 8, Gross argued numerous factors warranted Quaglin’s release, including the length of his detention, the numerous times he’s been moved between facilities conditions at the D.C. Jail and his lack of access at the facility to evidence in his case.
On Tuesday, the judge denied Quaglin’s motion. While acknowledging there have been issues reported at the jail’s Central Detention Facility in the past, McFadden noted the U.S. Marshal’s service responded swiftly in 2021 to remove approximately 400 defendants out of the facility after a Marshals’ inspection found standing sewage and shut-off water. At the time, the Marshal’s Service found the conditions acceptable at a separate wing of the facility where Jan. 6 defendants have been held called the Central Treatment Facility.
As Gross noted during Tuesday’s hearing, three Republicans on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability sent a letter to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser last week announcing their plan to investigate the D.C. Jail’s handling of Jan. 6 detainees. The letter included the claim that Jan. 6 detainees have received “disparate treatment,” including lack of access to legal resources.
McFadden, who served as deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s criminal division before being appointed to the federal bench by former President Donald Trump in 2017, noted that it appeared to him – far from being denied access to resources or evidence at the D.C. Jail – Jan. 6 defendants had received extraordinary accommodations to view materials in their cases. At the facility, Jan. 6 defendants have access to tablets to view the voluminous evidence in the investigation, including, if they are signed up for it, the government’s electronic evidence database.
“I’ve seen cases for over a decade now and I’ve never seen a defendant have a tablet to access discovery materials,” McFadden said, noting the D.C. Jail’s program had been developed specifically in response to Jan. 6 defendants’ concerns.
Quaglin’s motion did not contain, and McFadden did not weigh in on, all of the complaints Jan. 6 defendants have levied against the D.C. Jail. In hearings before other judges, defendants have claimed they have been denied access to religious services and barbers. The House Republicans’ letter includes a reference to a detainee who suffered a “fractured bone that was left untreated” — a possible reference to Proud Boy Christopher Worrell, who was released from detention by another judge after jail officials failed to turn over notes from an orthopedic specialist. D.C. Corrections officials have contested Worrell’s account of his treatment at the jail, though two of them were held in contempt by U.S. District Judge Lamberth in connection with Worrell’s case.
As to Quaglin’s other claims, McFadden laid his history of facility transfers at his own feet – noting he’d received “numerous incident reports” detailing aggressive and disruptive behavior by Quaglin. A Marshal’s deputy said in court Tuesday that Quaglin’s recent transfer to the D.C. Jail came after the Rappahannock Regional Jail reported he had been harassing medical staff. Addressing the length of Quaglin’s pre-trial detention, he pointed out that was “entirely of his own making.”
Quaglin had been scheduled to begin trial on Oct. 3, but his then-attorney, Joseph McBride, requested a continuance in August due to a medical issue. McFadden asked Quaglin then if he wanted a new attorney and warned him it could be an additional six months before he saw trial if the continuance was granted. On Tuesday, McFadden, who used that same August hearing to scold McBride about missing multiple court appearances and deadlines in Quaglin’s case, said Quaglin had ignored the “concerns I raised with him about Mr. McBride’s representations” and chose to delay his trial anyway. At the time, Quaglin told McFadden he believed McBride was “the man for the job.”
McBride filed a motion to withdraw from Quaglin’s case last week so he could focus on preparations for another Jan. 6 client, Ryan Nichols, to go to trial later this month. McFadden granted that motion the same day. Gross, a civil attorney who entered his appearance in the case in September, then took over Quaglin’s case.
Despite denying Quaglin’s request, McFadden said he was committed to ensuring Quaglin had appropriate access to his discovery materials at the jail and didn’t fault Gross for Quaglin not having a log in to the electronic evidence system.
“This has been a defense problem and I don’t blame Mr. Gross for this,” McFadden said. “Mr. Gross is now Mr. Quaglin’s third attorney.”
Gross, who served as a rabbi for years before becoming a lawyer, told McFadden he would be filing another request for a continuance because the current trial date was scheduled for Passover and he is an Orthodox Jew. McFadden expressed his dismay at that, saying he was surprised Gross would have agreed to take Quaglin’s case solo knowing he would be unavailable for the trial date.
“The age of this case has largely been because of Mr. Quaglin, and if there’s a continuance that will be because of Mr. Quaglin,” McFadden said.
Gross also told McFadden he disputed some of the judge’s characterizations of the case history in his denial of the motion for release and planned an additional filing to correct the record.

So — when you say he “fought for you,” what you really mean is that he hates the same people you hate, only he said it out loud so you can say it out loud. He did not do a goddam thing for your except make it okay for you to shout at the people you hate.
The Washington Post reported Sunday afternoon that more evidence has become available to prove obstructions of justice for the theft of the government documents taken back to Mar-a-Lago.
Trump refused to turn the documents over for nearly a year when the Justice Department and FBI got involved. The FBI was then given an envelope with additional documents, but that still wasn’t everything. Ultimately, the DOJ got a search warrant and went to Mar-a-Lago to get the documents.
According to the fresh evidence, there is more that has been discovered pointing to former President Donald Trump’s obstructions of justice, those familiar told the Post.
“The additional evidence comes as investigators have used emails and text messages from a former Trump aide to help understand key moments last year,” the report explained, citing the sources.
Special counsel Jack Smith is at work on the documents case as well as anything around the Jan. 6 attack.
The report highlighted that the key difference between documents found at Trump’s home and those found at former Vice President Mike Pence’s or President Joe Biden’s is the intent and the obstruction. Both Pence and Biden say they were unaware that they had the information. Trump knew because he was told about it so many times when being asked for it to be returned prior to the DOJ being involved.
“Investigators now suspect, based on witness statements, security camera footage, and other documentary evidence, that boxes including classified material were moved from a Mar-a-Lago storage area after the subpoena was served, and that Trump personally examined at least some of those boxes,” the Post said, citing their sources. “While Trump’s team returned some documents with classified markings in response to the subpoena, a later FBI search found more than 100 additional classified items that had not been turned over.”
The details are coming from court documents that are asking for judicial authorization for the FBI to do a search of Trump’s home, because of “evidence of obstruction will be found at the premises.”

If you are planning to travel to NYCity to protest Trump’s arrest on Tuesday, here are some tips to make your trip enjoyable.
First of all, you’ve got to get here, right? The absolute best way to get around in New York is to drive, as there is little in terms of traffic here to contend with.You don’t want to take any mass transit or cabs, since that will probably involve meeting people who might freak you out a little. But don’t worry, driving in New York is a real pleasure; it’s super-easy, particularly in lower Manhattan where you’ll probably want to go. One of the obvious attractions are the picturesque Lincoln and Holland Tunnels which provide ingress and egress from beautiful, pastoral New Jersey. Those tunnels are so fascinating in their architecture and sheer loveliness that you might want to spend your entire trip just hanging out in them! But try to resist that temptation, please; there’s much to await you on the other side (As a gesture of good will towards our Trump supporting friends, I’m told there will be no charge to take any of the tunnels or bridges this Tuesday).
Just know that when you enter the city, parking in Manhattan is a breeze! Literally thousands of street parking spaces are almost perpetually available, and if even if you have difficulty finding one (very rare!), there are plenty of affordable parking lots to safely stow that pickup truck. Just ignore those signs you may notice all along the street; they aren’t really meant to be taken seriously. A typical parking rate is $5 per day, almost anywhere, but the the New York City Parking authority has also authorized me to advise that all parking fees will be waived this Tuesday. So, free parking for all!
Now, let’s talk about your stay. Hotels in Manhattan are among the most inexpensive in the country; as a useful guide, rates are typically about what you’d find in Decatur, Georgia or Columbia, South Carolina. Rooms are almost always large and spacious, even in the most popular tourist destinations. You’ll be amazed how big your room is! I’d wager you will easily find accommodations for under $75 per night, and I’m told that on top of that, almost all hotels will be offering substantial discounts and free amenities this week. There is never any additional fee for parking at the hotel, and for those of you who choose to go the AirBnB route, as mentioned above, there is parking to be had almost anywhere.
You’ll want to eat, of course. Restaurants in Manhattan have some of the lowest prices around. And it’s always good, familiar “American” food! For a family of four (you are bringing your little ones, right?) you can probably find dinner in Lower Manhattan for a song (that’s including a few drinks!). And waiters are among the most polite in the country! They don’t even expect a tip, but a word to the wise: It helps a lot if you advise them that you have no intention of tipping before y’all sit down to eat. They’ll make sure you get the best service possible!
But let’s get down to the real fun, shall we? You’re here to protest? New York loves protests, even if they do tie up traffic occasionally. You will find New Yorkers to be very sympathetic to your cause, defending the rights of Donald Trump and the terrible tyrannical overreach of the justice system against him. You’ll be among friends! Trump is a truly beloved figure here, almost akin to Jesus or the Pope. That’s why there’s a Trump Tower in Manhattan — because Donald is so aware of the good will New Yorkers feel towards him. Nobody is more popular in New York (except maybe Marjorie Taylor Greene!).
You’ll find that New Yorkers are very laid-back, probably best compared with the same type of folks you’d find in today towns like Burlington, Vermont, or Provincetown, MA. Wait, you’ve never been to those towns? Well, in a nutshell everyone’s mantra is “live and let live” but hopefully you won’t find us too meek and peace-loving for your taste. A word of caution: cursing in public is frowned upon. New Yorkers are by nature soft-spoken and absolutely abhor foul language. It’s a very conservative town!
Along those lines, another feature which may appeal to some of you is the utterly homogenous nature of our city. Practically everyone is white wherever you go, and there are no gays, lesbians or transgender folks at all who might disturb you and the kids. Everybody speaks English! And no one will disparage you for wearing your best Trump gear. Just pretend you’re at a big rally in Waco! And don’t be surprised if total strangers come up to you and initiate a conversation, especially when they see that Trump t-shirt.
The NYPD are also among the most tolerant police forces in the country when it comes to protests. No permit is ever necessary! Police will usually be seen happily mingling with the protesters, providing a good will atmosphere for all that is improved immeasurably by the fact that they are all unarmed! That’s right, just like in London, no police carry guns in the City of New York. It’s just another way of saying “we welcome you.” They won’t even react if you get in their face and shout insults at them! Trust me, it’ll be just like D.C. on Jan. 6! And if anyone asks you, just tell them you’re a “tourist.” They’ll understand.
I know some of you are thinking about bringing your guns. Well you’re going to love New Yorkers’ attitudes about that! It’s encouraged that you display your handguns openlyso don’t feel shy about displaying them as you walk by police. They’ll just smile and wave, I promise you. Remember, most of the folks in New York feel exactly the same way you do about the terrible injustice that the Deep State is perpetrating here, so you’ll have plenty of support.
You’ll feel at ease everywhere you go, but if you have a little extra time, check out the cafes and bars in the West Village and the art galleries in SOHO. The folks that run those establishments have advised me they’ll be offering special discounts to folks wearing their “Trump gear!” So hop on down to Christopher Street, or just peruse Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen with your MAGA hats and I guarantee you an experience you’ll never forget!

One “social source” in Palm Beach told People, “Even though Ivanka loves her dad, she knows how impossible he can be.” The source also said Ivanka is focused on raising her children and settling down in Miami and is “through with politics.”
Of course, that’s not a huge surprise. Ivanka said essentially the same thing in November—without the “he’s impossible” bit—when her father launched his campaign to ruin everyone’s lives for another four years. But it’s clear now that she’s followed through and doubled down.
“I love my father very much. This time around I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family,” she stated in November. “I do not plan to be involved in politics. While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena.”
Oh, great. Well, glad you get to move on, Princess Sparkle Pony. Unfortunately, your father is still at large.
According to insiders, Ivanka has spent recent months traveling with her family and trying to ignore the negativity around her.
“She misses her active social life in New York, but is enjoying Miami and all that it has to offer,” the social source says. “She has started over and pursues interests in business, design, and being involved in the lives of her children.”
As far as the legal problems facing her father, the source says Ivanka is aware there is nothing she can do.
Well, if there’s nothing you can do, just you never mind then. And it’s so nice to hear she’s trying to ignore the negativity around her. So are we. Sadly, we’re all pretty far down the waiting list for the Saudis to give us $2 billion as they did Jared.
Meanwhile, Trump’s reported wife, Melania, seems even less concerned with Trump’s fate than daughter Ivanka is. She’s still reportedly angry with Trump over the Stormy Daniels affair, which is understandable. Though even more understandable would be Ivanka’s distaste over being compared—however favorably—to the porn star Trump was getting it on with.
According to a new report, Melania remains “angry” at her husband over the alleged affair he had with porn star Stormy Daniels, which could result in his being indicted by the Manhattan district attorney’s office at some point in the near future, thanks to the hush money he paid to keep Daniels quiet in 2016. (Though the ex-president has denied sleeping with the adult-film star, he has admitted to the $130,000 deal brokered by his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen on the eve of the 2020 election, which Trump subsequently reimbursed Cohen for during his first year in office.) And while it doesn’t seem unreasonable for Melania to still be upset about her husband allegedly cheating on her—just months after she gave birth, according to Daniels—her negative feelings for him apparently run so deep that she doesn’t seem to give a f–k if he is criminally charged. The former first lady, a source familiar with the matter told People, “wants to ignore” the whole thing and “hopes it will pass,” but “doesn’t sympathize with Donald’s plight.”
Not only that, but, according to the same source, the former FLOTUS really wouldn’t be put out in the slightest if her spouse did time behind bars. “Melania loves the beautiful weather and resort town atmosphere of Palm Beach,” this person told reporter Linda Marx. “She is happy when she is in Palm Beach. She has her son and other close family members. They are tribe-like and usually stick together. Despite what happens to Donald, she will be fine. She is well taken care of.”
Hey, very few of us live in Palm Beach, but I have a feeling the weather will be beautiful everywhere if and when Trump actually goes to prison.

Since the announcement about Trump’s indictment by the NYC DA, talking heads on both left-wing and right-wing media have been wringing their hands over “violence”.
Forget it. Ignore them. Remember — their jobs depend on their being able to generate an audience and nothing attracts a audience more than predictions of doom.
Trump has been indicted for what seems to be 30 or more counts, mostly having to do with falsifying business records to pay off a porn star for a one-night stand. He soon will be indicted for (1) attempting to overturn an election in Georgia; (2) stealing classified documents and lying about it; and (3) plotting and inciting an attempted coup.
So — what will happen? Not much.
Rightwing lunatics in Congress will rave, rant, threaten — not to do anything useful or violent, but to stir up the goobers who will donate to their campaigns.
Some of Trump’s worshipers in the same gangs of thugs who kicked off the Jan 6 violence likely will try isolated attacks or threats on God-only-knows who. They will be met by loads and loads of police.
The talking heads will keep it up.
Meanwhile, Trump will show up at the respective courthouses, hear the charges, plead not guilty, his lawyers will move to dismiss, the judge will deny, lawyers will make more delaying motions, judge will deny, trial will start, Trump will be convicted and sentences. And the country will go on, better off without him
Trump is done for. He is fading but will have occasional outbursts.
This nation will not “die” if Trump is prosecuted, convicted, and punished for any of his many crimes.
There may well be isolated incidents of violence by some of the deranged whackjobs who worship him, but talk of “civil war” is too silly to bother discussing.
Trump may run, but he cannot hide. He can delay his convictions (plural), but he can’t prevent them.
