Republicans privately praying Jan 6 hearings will take down Trump so they don’t have to take him down

During an appearance on CNN’s “New Day” with hosts John Berman and Brianna Keilar, former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) stated that the Republican Party leadership is “privately praying” that the Jan 6th Committee’s investigation of the Capitol insurrection will end Donald Trump’s political future.

Discussing the House Select Committee testimony given by Cassidy Hutchinson, the former senior aide to ex-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Walsh said the revelations so far are giving GOP lawmakers hope that they can finally put the former president in their rearview mirrors.

Pressed by host Berman “…does it make Trump’s path to the nomination more tenuous, what we’ve heard from the January 6th committee?” Walsh replied, “Maybe, John, maybe, but I think really important to say at the outset that, you know, [Pennsylvania Republican Se. Pat] Toomey and Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy and all of these Republicans privately are praying that this committee and these hearings will do what they haven’t had the courage to do for the last four or five or six years and that’s remove Donald Trump from the public scene.”

“Look, John and Brianna, I talk to Republican base voters every single day,” he continued. “They are the ones who are going to decide if Trump is the nominee, not Mitch McConnell or Pat Toomey. And I will admit that there is — Trump is losing some support among his base based on what I’m hearing because of these hearings, but it’s not because they disapprove of Trump’s behavior, they just think this is going to make it more difficult for Trump to win in ’24.”

Asked by host Keillar about Republicans keeping their distaste for the former president to themselves, Walsh snapped, “Brianna, I have to watch my language and, John, I can’t say what I really want to say. But I am so damn sick of Republicans talking privately or anonymously. None of that stuff matters. I mean, look at 26-year-old Cassidy Hutchinson, look at what she’s done this week.”

“I mean, five years ago I came out and publicly called out Trump and if I had a dollar for every damn Republican over the last five years who privately told me, ‘oh, joe, I agree with what you’re saying publicly about trump,’ I would be wealthy.”

Have you ever read something so stupid, so devoid of reason, logic or facts . . . .

. . . that you want to wash out your eyeballs with bleach?

I’ve just finished browsing the Facebook pages of three dedicated Republicans.

The level of ignorance, bullshit, and dedication to lies is overwhelming.  THIS is why Republicans are a threat to our Constitutional republic — because these people believe the lies they spread . . . and they vote.

God save us.

If there had been Facebook back when Jim Jones was handing out Kool-Aid, his followers’ Facebook pages would have looked like present-day Republicans’ Facebook pages.

Liz Cheney slams Trump in front of Republican audience, the crowd gives her standing ovation

GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming received a warm welcome while speaking as part of the “A Time for Choosing” speakers series held by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.

“I know at this moment we are confronting a domestic threat we have never faced before and that is a former president who is attempting to unravel the foundations of our constitutional republic and he is aided by Republican leaders and elected officials who have made themselves willing hostages to this dangerous and irrational man,” she said.

“Some in my party are embracing former President Trump and even after all we have seen, they are enabling his lies. Many urge we do not confront Donald Trump, that we look away, and that is certainly the easier path. One need only look at the threats facing the witnesses who have come before the Jan. 6 committee to understand the nature and magnitude of that threat, but to argue the threat posed by Donald Trump can be ignored is to cast aside the responsibility that every citizen, everyone must not do that, and we cannot do that.”

“As the full picture is coming into view with the Jan.6 committee, it has become clear that the efforts Donald Trump oversaw and engaged in were even more chilling and more threatening than we could have imagined,” Cheney said. “As we have shown, Donald Trump attempted to overturn the presidential election and attempted to stay in office and prevent the peaceful transfer of power. He summoned the mob to Washington, he knew they were armed on Jan. 6, he knew they were angry and he directed the violent mob to march on the Capitol in order to delay or prevent the counting of votes.”

She addressed the choice facing the GOP.

“The reality we face today as Republicans, as we think about the choice in front of us, we have to choose, because Republicans cannot be loyal to both Donald Trump and to the Constitution at this moment,” she said to applause.

“We must not elect people who are more loyal to themselves or to power than they are to our Constitution,” she said, to more applause.

After praising Cassidy Hutchinson, Cheney trotted out what sounded like a 2024 campaign line.

“And I want to speak to every young girl watching tonight: the power is yours and so is the responsibility. In our great nation, one individual can make all the difference and each individual must try. There are no bystanders in a constitutional republic and let me say this to the little girls and young women watching tonight, these days, for the most part, men are running the world, and it is really not going that well,” she said to cheers and applause.

COMMENT

I think it’s interesting that the Ronald Reagan Foundation is sponsoring a series of Republican speakers addressing the topic “A Time to Choose” – – – choose what, between whom?

Trump is toast.

American Oversight has obtained copies of the phony Electoral College “certifications”

American Oversight has obtained copies of phony electoral vote certificates from seven states that were submitted to Congress as part of the failed attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The fake electoral certificates were assembled by groups of Trump supporters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin who sought to replace the valid presidential electors from their state — who had been chosen by voters in free and fair elections — with bogus slates of pro-Trump electors.

None of the certificates contains any indication that they list illegitimate slates of electors not chosen by those states’ voters.

The coordinated, multi-state effort to cast doubt on the 2020 election and undermine the electoral vote process tragically led to the violent Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in which a pro-Trump mob stormed the building and sought to physically block the congressional certification of each state’s real Electoral College votes.

American Oversight is actively investigating the ongoing assault on our democracy, including the efforts by former President Donald Trump and his supporters to reverse the 2020 election. We obtained these records from the National Archives and Records Administration in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

We’ve filed separate sets of public records requests in multiple states — including in many of the seven named above — seeking documents relating to the Jan. 6 rally, the lawsuit filed by Texas attempting to invalidate other states’ electoral votes, and Trump’s effort to pressure Georgia officials to illegally change the vote totals, among others.

American Oversight is a nonpartisan, nonprofit watchdog that uses public records requests backed by litigation to fight corruption, drive accountability, and defend democracy. We believe transparency is a critical tool to promote integrity in government and to protect justice, truth, and the rule of law.

Now we know the traitors who signed the fake Electoral College letters

The 84 people who signed bogus documents claiming that Donald Trump won the 2020 election include dozens of local Republican Party leaders, seven current candidates for public office, eight current office holders and at least five previous state and federal office holders.

Groups from ArizonaGeorgiaMichiganNew Mexico, NevadaPennsylvania and Wisconsin all sent lists of so-called alternate electors to the National Archives after the 2020 election. The slate of fake electors includes Lou Barletta and Charlie Gerow, both candidates for governor in Pennsylvania; Burt Jones, a candidate for lieutenant governor in Georgia; James Lamon, a candidate for U.S. Senate from Arizona; and candidates for state legislative seats.

The group also includes eight current officeholders:

  • Jake Hoffman, an Arizona state representative.
  • Burt Jones, a Georgia state senator.
  • Stanley Grot, the Shelby Township clerk in Michigan.
  • Amy Facchinello, a member of the school board in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
  • Robert Spindell Jr., a member of the Wisconsin Election Commission.
  • Sam DeMarco III, an at-large member of the Allegheny County Council in Pennsylvania.
  • Josephine Ferro, the Monroe County Register of Wills in Pennsylvania.
  • Kelly Ruh, an alderperson for De Pere, Wisconsin.
