Now we know: Trove of Mark Meadows’ texts reveal Meadows, Republican members of Congress, Trump partners plotted to overthrow US government, institute “marshall law (sic)”

The messages you are about to read are the definitive, real-time record of a plot to overturn an American election and to destroy our Constitution.

Turning Point Memo (TPM) has obtained the 2,319 text messages that Mark Meadows, who was President Trump’s last White House chief of staff, turned over to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack. Today, we are publishing The Meadows Texts, a series based on an in-depth analysis of these extraordinary — and disturbing — communications.

The vast majority of Meadows’ texts described in this series are being made public for the very first time. They show the senior-most official in the Trump White House communicating with members of Congress, state-level politicians, and far-right activists as they work feverishly to overturn Trump’s loss in the 2020 election. The Meadows texts illustrate in moment-to-moment detail an authoritarian effort to undermine the will of the people and upend the American democratic system as we know it.

The text messages, obtained from multiple sources, offer new insights into how the assault on the election was rooted in deranged internet paranoia and undemocratic ideology. They show Meadows and other high-level Trump allies reveling in wild conspiracy theories, violent rhetoric, and crackpot legal strategies for refusing to certify Joe Biden’s victory. They expose the previously unknown roles of some members of Congress, local politicians, activists and others in the plot to overturn the election. Now, for the first time, many of those figures will be named and their roles will be described — in their own words.

FYI…So I asked Ali Pardo from our press shop to get in touch with Rep. Mo Brooks’ office since he seems to be the ringleader on the Jan 6th deal. They say they will have as many as 50 members on board 1/6…but we won’t have a list of names until Sunday or Monday. This may not surprise you, but no one from the legal team has made contact with them at all. They request examples of fraud, numbers, names, whatever supporting evidence can be provided. We’ve now supplied that, but our legal squad isn’t exactly buttoned up. I bring this up for a simple reason – if we’re hoping to move real numbers on the 6th, I think we need to quickly start mobilizing our real-deal allies. I’m ready to go, I have bodies to help, will follow your lead.

Mark Meadows

Thanks Jason. You are the best. I will bring it up with potus and I plan to meet with them on Saturday.

On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all — in accordance with guidance from founding father Alexander Hamilton and judicial precedence. No legislative act, wrote Alexander Hamilton in Federalist No. 78, contrary to the Constitution, can be valid. The court in Hubbard v. Lowe reinforced this truth: That an unconstitutional statute is not a law at all is a proposition no longer open to discussion. 226 F. 135, 137 (SDNY 1915), appeal dismissed, 242 U.S. 654 (1916). Following this rationale, an unconstitutionally appointed elector, like an unconstitutionally enacted statute, is no elector at all.

This is what passes for Republican concern about Paul Whelan

2018:  Whelan is arrested in Russia, charged with spying for the US, imprisoned on phony charges.  Action by Trump administration to free Whelan: . . .

2019: Trump and Republican action to free Whelan: . . . . . . .

2020: Trump and Republican action to free Whelan: . . . . . . .

2021: Trump and Republican action to free Whelan: . . . . . . .

2022:  Biden frees Britney Griner.  Republicans lose their minds because a gay black female is freed while a Marine with a bad conduct discharge remains in jail in Russia.  Where was their concern for Whelan in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 . . . . .

Young Republican group wants “total war”; well, okay, bring it on.

Bring it on but wait a couple of days — I need to clean my guns, get more ammo, load magazines, and sharpen my Ka-Bar.

While Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) promised that if she were in charge of Jan. 6, people would have been more armed and dangerous, other speakers at the Young Republicans gala in New York City talked about the next civil war.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks extremism throughout the United States, cited the speech from the Young republican president Gavin Wax, who told the Upper East side gala, “We want to cross the Rubicon. We want total war. We must be prepared to do battle in every arena. In the media. In the courtroom. At the ballot box. And in the streets.”

“This is the only language the left understands. The language of pure and unadulterated power,” Wax also said.

Hatewatch reporters were on hand to observe as white nationalists Peter and Lyndia Brimelow of VDARE met with Steve Bannon and Donald Trump Jr., where they took selfies.

“Republicans publicly lauded members of an Austrian political party founded by World War II-era German Nazi party members,” said the SPLC observers. Newsweek opinion editor Josh Hammer joked with “racist political operative Jack Posobiec,” the site said. Posobiec was the one who spread the false Pizzagate conspiracy. Newsweek has grown increasingly friendly to extremists over the past several years as Hammer invited Posobiec onto his podcast. Though lately, he’s been more supportive of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) over Donald Trump.

“Republican speakers repeatedly voiced an anti-democracy, authoritarian ideology, and extremists in the audience cheered wildly,” wrote the SPLC. “White nationalists such as the Brimelows of VDARE and leaders from extreme far-right European parties like Alternative for Germany (Alternative für Deutschland, AfD), whom German officials placed under surveillance for their ties to extremism, and Austrian Freedom Party (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs, FPÖ), ate and drank in the same room as newly elected Republican congresspeople, such as Long Island and Queens-based George Santos, Georgia-based Mike Collins and Florida-based Cory Mills.”

Someone needs to tell these Young Republican fools that war is not a video game.  Oh, wait, don’t tell them . . . let them find out for themselves.

Donald Trump NEVER attempted to free US citizen Paul Whelan

On Thursday morning, the world got some huge news as WNBA star Brittney Griner was finally released from a Russian penal colony after nearly 10 months in Russian custody. The United States secured Griner’s release with a prisoner swap that sent Griner home in return for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who was sent back to Russia. It was a huge move, but not everyone agreed with the decision, including former United States president Donald Trump, who absolutely blasted the trade.

In a post on his conservative social media website Truth Social, Donald Trump absolutely blasted Brittney Griner as well as Joe Biden‘s decision to have her released. Trump claimed that Griner “openly hates our Country” and that the trade was “a ‘stupid’ and unpatriotic embarrassment” for the country, suggesting that the United States should have secured the release of former United States marine Paul Whelan instead.

With these comments, however, Donald Trump exposed himself as a bit of a hypocrite, according to Andrew Feinberg of The Independent. Paul Whelan was imprisoned during Trump’s presidency, and Trump did nothing to secure his release, not even mentioning his name.

“Mr. Trump did not mention Mr. Whelan’s name a single time during the two years he was held in Russia on his watch, nor did he bring up the former US Marine during a 2019 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Feinberg wrote.

Trump’s 2024 “candidacy” is already a bust and will not get any better

Tn an analysis on how things are going for Donald Trump since his overly-hyped 2024 presidential campaign launch at Mar-a-Lago weeks ago, Guardian political analyst David Smith claims the former president has lost the “sizzle” that made him such a hot property in 2016 as he skips the type of political rallies in front of supporters that have kept him in the eyes of voters.

As Smith notes, what has followed is Trump being involved in controversies like meeting with notorious anti-Semites at his Mar-a-Lago resort as well as a major criminal conviction in a Manhattan courtroom and multiple criminal and civil lawsuit investigations closing in.

As Smith wrote, “The swagger of 2016 has given way to somnolence in 2022. Opinion polls are grim. Legal setbacks are piling up. A run of dismal results in the midterm elections, culminating in another Republican loss in Georgia this week, have punctured his aura of invincibility within the party.”

Adding, “Trump has performed astonishing acts of self-sabotage, from dining with antisemites to calling for the constitution to be shredded. He has eschewed a widely-anticipated spree of public rallies, instead remaining largely out of the public gaze,” Smith suggested, in most cases, this would be the beginning of the end of any other politician’s political career.

According to American University history professor Alan Lichtman, the former president is off to a brutal start if he hopes to be re-elected again in 2024.

“It couldn’t be going any worse,” he explained. “And it’s not because Donald Trump is making mistakes. It’s because Donald Trump is being Donald Trump.”

Having said that, Lichtman elaborated, “He was something new and fresh and interesting back in 2016. He has presided over three disastrous election cycles for Republicans in 2018, 2020 and 2022 and he’s the same old Donald Trump, caring only about himself, wrapped up in his own grievances and his own whining. It’s just not playing anymore for the American people.”

According to the Guardian’s Smith, “So it was that Trump’s Mar-a-Lago speech was widely derided as a damp squib, lacking his usual bombast and brio and even his daughter, Ivanka, has decided to sit this one out. Since then, the campaign has been running on autopilot and little has been seen of the former president hunkered down in Florida, venturing out only to play golf.”

More importantly, he observed that the Trump rallies that should have followed the 2024 announcement are nowhere to be seen.

“Trump’s rambunctious campaign rallies, expected to give early momentum to his third consecutive run for president, have mysteriously failed to materialize. In June 2015, by contrast, he declared his candidacy after riding down an escalator in New York and held his first rally in Iowa just 10 hours later, moving on to New Hampshire a day later,” he wrote.

YES, you MAGAts, Trump did release 5,000 Taliban prisoners

MAGAts have their panties in a knot because of the prisoner swap that freed American Britney Griner.  Someone needs to remind this idiot children that Trump agreed to release 5,000 Taliban in exchange for 1,000 Afghan government supporters.

Critics of the deal that saw basketball star Brittney Griner released from a Russian prison camp in exchange for a notorious arms dealer are being reminded how the Donald Trump administration negotiated the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners.

Griner, who was jailed after being found in possession of a vape containing cannabis oil cartridges at Moscow Airport in February, was freed on Thursday as part of a prisoner swap with Viktor Bout.

Bout, 55, known as the “merchant of death,” was serving 25 years in U.S. custody after being convicted in 2011 of numerous charges, including conspiring to kill American citizens.

Bout was jailed for selling weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and is said to have provided arms to other terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda, rebel forces in Rwanda, and to military conflicts in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

In a Truth Social Post, the former president asked why a swap wasn’t considered for Paul Whelan, an ex-marine who is serving a 16-year jail sentence after being arrested in Moscow on suspicion of spying in 2018.

“What kind of a deal is it to swap Brittney Griner, a basketball player who openly hates our Country, for the man known as ‘the Merchant of Death,’ who is one of the biggest arms dealers anywhere in the World, and responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and horrific injuries,” Trump said.

“Why wasn’t former Marine Paul Whelan included in this totally one-sided transaction? He would have been let out for the asking. What a ‘stupid’ and unpatriotic embarrassment for the USA!!!”

A number of social media users pointed out how in 2020, the Trump administration negotiated a deal which saw 5,000 Taliban fighters freed in exchange for up to 1,000 Afghan government captives as part of a peace deal between the U.S. and Islamist militants.

After originally rejecting the proposal, then Afghan President Ashraf Ghani eventually went on to free the thousands of Taliban members by August 2020.

In a statement at the time, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the decision to release the prisoners was “unpopular,” but would ultimately pave the way for the war in Afghanistan to end.

Writing on Twitter, Omar Rivero, founder of Occupy Democrats, said: “The same Trumpers who are losing their minds right now because Biden freed a single Russian arms dealer in exchange for the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner didn’t say a peep when Trump freed over 5,000 Taliban prisoners. You really can’t make this shit up…”

Human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid said: Republicans completely ignored it when Trump released 5,000 Taliban terrorists into Afghanistan—but are now outraged that Biden helped return Brittney Griner to the United States. I can’t quite figure out why.

“If you’re upset that Biden exchanged an arms dealer for Brittany Griner—but approved Trump releasing 5,000 Taliban terrorists who then took over Afghanistan—stop pretending it’s national security you care about,” Rashid added.

Lawyer Tristan Snell tweeted: “In late 2018, Trump released Abdul Ghani Baradar, one of the top leaders of the Taliban, along with 5000 other Taliban fighters, in exchange for… *checks notes*… nobody.”

One year after the Taliban members were freed, U.S. troops left Afghanistan ahead of the takeover of the country by the Jihadist group.

During the evacuation, a suicide bombing at Kabul airport on August 26, 2021, killed more than 180 people, including 13 U.S. service members.

ISIS-K, a Central Asia affiliate of the Islamic State group (ISIS), claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a briefing on Thursday, Biden said Griner was on her way back to the U.S. following “painstaking and intense negotiations,” while promising the administration has “not forgotten about” Whelan.
