YES, you MAGAts, Trump did release 5,000 Taliban prisoners

MAGAts have their panties in a knot because of the prisoner swap that freed American Britney Griner.  Someone needs to remind this idiot children that Trump agreed to release 5,000 Taliban in exchange for 1,000 Afghan government supporters.

Critics of the deal that saw basketball star Brittney Griner released from a Russian prison camp in exchange for a notorious arms dealer are being reminded how the Donald Trump administration negotiated the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners.

Griner, who was jailed after being found in possession of a vape containing cannabis oil cartridges at Moscow Airport in February, was freed on Thursday as part of a prisoner swap with Viktor Bout.

Bout, 55, known as the “merchant of death,” was serving 25 years in U.S. custody after being convicted in 2011 of numerous charges, including conspiring to kill American citizens.

Bout was jailed for selling weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and is said to have provided arms to other terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda, rebel forces in Rwanda, and to military conflicts in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

In a Truth Social Post, the former president asked why a swap wasn’t considered for Paul Whelan, an ex-marine who is serving a 16-year jail sentence after being arrested in Moscow on suspicion of spying in 2018.

“What kind of a deal is it to swap Brittney Griner, a basketball player who openly hates our Country, for the man known as ‘the Merchant of Death,’ who is one of the biggest arms dealers anywhere in the World, and responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and horrific injuries,” Trump said.

“Why wasn’t former Marine Paul Whelan included in this totally one-sided transaction? He would have been let out for the asking. What a ‘stupid’ and unpatriotic embarrassment for the USA!!!”

A number of social media users pointed out how in 2020, the Trump administration negotiated a deal which saw 5,000 Taliban fighters freed in exchange for up to 1,000 Afghan government captives as part of a peace deal between the U.S. and Islamist militants.

After originally rejecting the proposal, then Afghan President Ashraf Ghani eventually went on to free the thousands of Taliban members by August 2020.

In a statement at the time, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the decision to release the prisoners was “unpopular,” but would ultimately pave the way for the war in Afghanistan to end.

Writing on Twitter, Omar Rivero, founder of Occupy Democrats, said: “The same Trumpers who are losing their minds right now because Biden freed a single Russian arms dealer in exchange for the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner didn’t say a peep when Trump freed over 5,000 Taliban prisoners. You really can’t make this shit up…”

Human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid said: Republicans completely ignored it when Trump released 5,000 Taliban terrorists into Afghanistan—but are now outraged that Biden helped return Brittney Griner to the United States. I can’t quite figure out why.

“If you’re upset that Biden exchanged an arms dealer for Brittany Griner—but approved Trump releasing 5,000 Taliban terrorists who then took over Afghanistan—stop pretending it’s national security you care about,” Rashid added.

Lawyer Tristan Snell tweeted: “In late 2018, Trump released Abdul Ghani Baradar, one of the top leaders of the Taliban, along with 5000 other Taliban fighters, in exchange for… *checks notes*… nobody.”

One year after the Taliban members were freed, U.S. troops left Afghanistan ahead of the takeover of the country by the Jihadist group.

During the evacuation, a suicide bombing at Kabul airport on August 26, 2021, killed more than 180 people, including 13 U.S. service members.

ISIS-K, a Central Asia affiliate of the Islamic State group (ISIS), claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a briefing on Thursday, Biden said Griner was on her way back to the U.S. following “painstaking and intense negotiations,” while promising the administration has “not forgotten about” Whelan.

Open Letter to My Republican Friends

This is an open letter to my Republican friends.  I do not want to see you and your party go down the drain — which is where you are headed.

This nation needs at least two functioning political parties each of which can present policy proposals to the voters, debate those proposals, and let the voters decide.

We do not have a two-party system any longer.  We have one party — the Democratic Party — and a cult — the cult of Donald Trump.

You need to drop Trump.  Run away from him.  Put away the Trump flags, the MAGA hats, scrape off the bumper stickers, and purge Trump from your memory.

Donald Trump is a piece of dog shit on your shoe that you cannot scrape off.  Scrape him off.

Under Trump, the Republican Party has suffered the rare humiliation of failing to win a second term in the Oval Office, and has lost a majority in the Senate three times.

Today, despicable people are the rule, not the exception, in the Republican party: Trump, Pence, McConnell, McCarthy, Taylor-Greene, Boebert, Gaetz, Biggs ,Gosar, Jordan, Gohmert, Miller, Cruz, Cotton, Paul, Graham, Kennedy, Rubio, DeSantis, Abbot, Noem ———–. We all could add dozens to that list, but the point is that these radical soulless extremists ARE the GOP now.

The Democratic Party is a traditional major political party trying to better govern this nation for the benefit of all its citizens. Currently, there is no other traditional major political party in this country. The GOP has devolved into a neurotic blustering personality cult led by a mentally unstable child.

It is time for you to drop Trump and become a rational, reasonable political party again.

Doing this will not be easy.  Trump still controls a rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth 30% of the Party.  If you drop him, this mob will shriek and howl, disrupt your meetings, call you names — but you need to drop Trump, face the howling mob — they will go away

Fox writes Trump’s political obituary

new editorial published on FoxNews.com is declaring former President Donald Trump’s presidential ambitions to be officially dead.

In an opinion piece titled “Herschel Walker just wrote Donald Trump’s political obituary,” columnist Liz Peek declared that the defeat of Trump’s handpicked Georgia Senate candidate should signal to the party that it’s time to move on.

“Having suffered the rare humiliation of failing to win a second term in the Oval Office, and having cost his party a majority in the senate – three times – it is time for Donald Trump to step away from politics,” she wrote. “It is the right thing to do for his party, for the country, and for himself.”

Of course, Trump is not stepping away from politics, as he has already announced his candidacy for the presidency in the 2024 election.

Nonetheless, Peek argues that Trump is a bigger asset for Democrats, whose donors churned out significant sums of money to beat Trump-endorsed candidates this past election cycle and who remain incredibly motivated to see him remain out of the Oval Office.

Peek believes that all of this shows that Trump is a fading power who is ripe to be picked off by a younger challenger.

“Ultimately, Trump may compete against rivals like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis or Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin who are not only more popular than Mr. Trump, but will also be better funded,” she concludes. “Already, he has attacked both those Republicans, further alienating those who want to win future elections. It’s time for former President Trump to realize that staying in the 2024 contest will only further erode his legacy. He must move aside, and let Republicans win the next round.”

“. . . further erode his legacy.”  WTF???  What legacy would that be?

TRUMP HIDING MORE CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS — found in one of his storage lockers.

In just the time it took to write this article, The Washington Post has update their source article. The new headline on that update: “Items with classified markings found at Trump storage unit in Florida.”

At least two more items marked with some level of classification have been found in a storage unit outside of West Palm Beach. Considering that the Trump Organization—100% owned by Donald Trump—is made up of over 500 different “companies,” would anyone like to hazard a guess as to how many buildings, homes, garages, sheds, and storage units might still need to be searched?

Lawyers for Donald Trump have reportedly completed a search of the Trump National Golf Club at Bedminster, New Jersey, and Trump Tower in New York City, and have notified the Justice Department that they found no additional classified material.

Which means, based on past experience, that the FBI should immediately go into these locations and conduct a search. And they should bring plenty of boxes. Case in point, back in June, an attorney for Trump signed a written statement claiming that all material “marked as classified and held in boxes in a storage area” at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort had been handed over to the government. This is in addition to the document Trump tried to get one of his attorneys to sign making the same claim in January. Those statements were blatant lies.

Is there really no unclassified material at Bedminster and Trump Tower? Even though The Washington Post reports that Trump’s attorneys hired an outside team to conduct the search, there’s no reason to believe that this search was either thorough or accurate. Trump’s team has demonstrated repeatedly that they will lie to cover up his crimes, and the Trump Organization was found guilty just this week on 17 criminal counts … criminal counts for which absolutely no one will do time, the fine will be trivial, and the company will pick up the tab.

The search of the two Trump properties was carried out in response to a grand jury subpoena ordering Trump to hand over all classified materials. However, with what has happened in the past, it seems absolutely ridiculous that anyone at the federal court, DOJ, FBI, or National Archives would trust the results of this search. In fact, it was an absolute breakdown in any trust of Trump’s legal team that caused Chief U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell to authorize an FBI to search at Mar-a-Lago in the first place.

The lesson that Trump and all members of his staff have learned—not just this year, and not just in this case, but over decades, on topics from money laundering to charity fraud—is that there is rarely, if ever, a serious personal penalty involved in lying to the government. So why not lie? Besides, if those “search teams” did happen to stumble across any document stamped Top Secret, Trump could always just claim he had already declassified it. Then his attorneys could carry on reporting that they found nothing classified. Back to step one.

The Trump team has certainly had plenty of time to conduct their search/cover-up since that grand jury subpoena was issued all the way back in May. The only possible response now is to simply have the DOJ request new search warrants and follow this up themselves.

Of course, it’s entirely likely that they will not find any classified documents—after all, if the outside team conducted an actual search, that would be an excellent time to box up any documents found and move them somewhere else. However, the search still has to be done. Otherwise, the courts are sending a clear message of, “Hey, we know you hid massive amounts of stolen property and repeatedly lied about giving it back, and we know that some things are still missing, but we’re just going to trust you when you say you don’t have them.”

Honestly, hiding or destroying this material should be a snap. The fact that such large quantities of highly classified materials were found in Mar-a-Lago in the first place was entirely due to Trump’s endless supply of hubris—he wanted those nuclear secrets close, where he could use them to underline what a big deal he was to people who stepped into his office to schedule a golf outing. Ten minutes of actual thought would have placed those documents where they could not be found, but that would require putting ego aside, and Trump couldn’t manage that.

Are there more classified documents at Bedminister and Trump Tower? We don’t know. We didn’t know before this “search,” and we still don’t. But we can be absolutely sure that this search by Team Trump was an absolute waste of time and an insult to everyone seeking justice.

DOJ, Jack Smith are not screwing around

Justice Dept. subpoenas Ariz., Mich., Wis. officials for Trump communications

Special counsel Jack Smith has subpoenaed local officials in Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin — three states that were central to former president Donald Trump’s failed plan to stay in power following the 2020 election — for any and all communications with Trump, his campaign and a long list of aides and allies.

The subpoenas, at least three of which are dated Nov. 22, show that Smith is extending the Justice Department’s examination of the circumstances leading up to the Capitol attack to include local election officials and their potential interactions with the former president and his  representatives.

The virtually identical requests to Arizona and Wisconsin name Trump individually, in addition to employees, agents and attorneys for his campaign. Details of the Michigan subpoena, confirmed by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, were not immediately available.

Lindsey Graham: As stupid as ever

Lindsey Graham: “It’s just a matter of time until somebody comes across that southern border & kills a bunch of Americans because they are a terrorist.”

Yeah, Lindsey. And it will be even less time before some undiagnosed, unhinged young male who can all too easily get military grade weapons and all the ammo he wants will drive up to a school or church or major public event and kills a bunch of Americans.

Just a suggestion Lindsey, do the math on number of Americans killed, injured or traumatized as a result of attack by a good ol’ American vs. those killed by foreign terrorists.

Just for once, it would be nice to get your facts and the priorities straight you slimy groveling wingnut!
